The Fabulous Five of Indian Cricket in the First Decade

Legends like Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, VVS Laxman, Virender Sehwag, and Rahul Dravid are referred to as ‘Fab Five’ of Indian Cricket. Batting has been the legacy of Indian cricket.


Sunil Gavaskar generation has passed the baton from their generation to another. The period known as the era of fab 5 is the most beautiful period of Indian cricket. Let us know about the legends forming Fab Five.


The first fab is Virender Sehwag who is the former Indian opener. In 2004, he is the only Indian batsman to have scored triple-centuries in test cricket. He is widely regarded as one of the most destructive batsmen of all time. Sehwag played as an aggressive right-handed batsman.


The second fab is Rahul Dravid who is popularly called as The Wall. He is among the best test batsmen. He hit 5 double-centuries in his career. He is regarded as one of the greatest batsmen in the history of cricket. He supported Indian batting for a period of 15 years. Currently, Rahul Dravid is overseas batting consultant for the Indian team along with the head coach for the Under-19 and 'A' teams.


The third fab is Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar who is popularly known as the God of cricket in India. He has made everything possible in cricket. He is one of the greatest players of all the time. He served Indian Cricket for a period of 24 years. In test matches of his career, he hit 51 centuries in 200 games while batting at No.4 in tests. He is the highest run scorer in International cricket.


The fourth Fab is Sourav Ganguly. He is popularly and affectionately known as Dada. He was the former captain of the Team India and is known as one of the greatest captains of India. Currently, Sourav Ganguly is the President of the Cricket Association of Bengal. He is also the President of the Editorial Board with Wisden India.


The fifth Fab in the group is VVS Laxman. Also Known as Very Very Special for all the Indians after a wonderful inning of 281 against Australia in Kolkata. He is one batsman which Australia can never forget. He has played many match-winning innings in the lower-order. He is currently a cricket commentator.
